"Pomona"
Patinated plaster sculpture
1928 c.

The sculpture is an outstanding example of a model in fake bronze patinated plaster, maybe a project for a bigger creation, can be dated after 1921, when Selva performed the Dream of Motherhood, one of his most striking works and intense, that is certainly the starting point for this sculpture more detailed and complex.

The idea of motherhood and fertility is associated here with Pomona, goddess of fruits and gardens. The most obvious is the strong michelangelism wrought that is a typical character of Selva, and that in the twenties and thirties results in structures freer and less set them tightly and with a spatial conception less symmetrical.
